Context

Verizon's Point of Sale application handles 50K+ transactions a day and has to work on desktop, tablet and mobile. I've worked on it at TCS since August 2024.

Problem

Hard-to-trigger production bugs could take days to reproduce and root-cause.

What I built

  • Responsive Point of Sale interfaces in React across desktop, tablet and mobile, improving usability, accessibility (WCAG) and reliability. I led their design and development.
  • A Redux middleware breadcrumb system that captures action trails and stack traces and flushes them to Kibana.
  • REST API integrations for real-time data exchange between systems, reducing processing delays across platforms.
  • End-to-end debugging and testing across the POS application, aimed at defect-free deployments on tight deadlines.

Engineering highlights

  1. Breadcrumbs for production bugs

Redux middleware records the trail of actions and stack traces leading up to a failure and ships them to Kibana. That cut the time to reproduce and root-cause hard-to-trigger production bugs from days to hours.

  2. One interface, three form factors

The same Point of Sale flows run on desktop, tablet and mobile, built responsive and accessible to WCAG rather than as separate apps.

Outcome

  • Debugging time for hard-to-trigger production bugs went from days to hours.
  • I contributed to View Together and Plan Builder. Together those programs reduced order placement time by 38%, improved CSAT by 14%, cut 215K+ annual complaint calls, drove USD 2.3B in annual savings, and grew transaction volume from USD 6B to USD 11.3B.
